Difference Between Lab-Grown Diamonds and Natural Mined Diamonds

The main difference between lab grown diamonds and mined diamonds is that lab created diamonds are made in a laboratory using advanced technology, while mined diamonds are naturally formed over millions of years in the earth's crust. Lab created diamonds have the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as mined diamonds, but they are much more affordable. Additionally, lab created diamonds are free from the environmental and ethical concerns associated with mining.

These are the 6 main differences between mined and lab created diamonds.

  1. Source: Lab grown diamonds are grown in a lab, whereas mined diamonds are formed and extracted from the Earth.
  2. Cost: Lab created diamonds are typically much less expensive than diamonds found in nature.
  3. Environmental Impact: Lab grown diamonds have a much smaller environmental footprint than mined diamonds, as no costly and harmful mining is required.
  4. Supply: Lab-created diamonds are becoming more popular and in demand, while mined diamonds tend to be more scarce and more expensive.
  5. Ethical: Lab created diamonds avoid any unethical labour practices that have been a major concern in the jewellery community.
  6. Quality: Lab created diamonds are typically of higher grade in terms of clarity, colour, and cut, while mined diamonds more likely to contain imperfections and inclusions.
