L:W Ratio of Diamonds
The length-to-width ratio compares a diamonds length to its width to show how elongated fancy-shaped diamond appears when viewed from above. This ratio is subjective; some people favor a more elongated appearance, or a chubby appearance, while others prefer a more balanced shape. Below are the most popular length-to-width ratios for fancy shapes.
Ex. A emerald-cut diamond that measures 7.00 mm long by 5.00mm has a length-to-width ratio of 1.4 (7.00/5.00) and will appear elongated.
